How about Microsoft be consistent and also put a shortcut/link to the volume mixer in the start menu ? I think it was in accessories/multimedia, even just accessories would be nice.

My network icon disappeared about 8 days ago. I did all the registry edit stuff and it didnt work but yesterday my volume and power icons disappeared. I followed what you said and my power and volume came back but my network icon is still greyed out ?

this morning there is no volume control on my taskbar, I went to what to show on the taskbar and the volume control was turned on but it still does not show in taskbar
The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window will show up on your screen. Here, go to the tab called Notification Area. In the System icons section check the Volume box and click on OK.
